The first Founder Monitor is live. Based on the career paths of more than one million Dutch alumni, it tracks how entrepreneurship develops over time — beyond anecdote and assumption.
What the research shows
After a decline to 3.01% in 2016–2020, the share of alumni who became a founder rose to 6.35% in 2021–2025 — the highest level across the periods analysed.
The programme is designed as a living research platform. Next up: the difference between male and female alumni founders, and the link between field of study and entrepreneurship.
Why it matters
Understanding where founders emerge helps education, policy and ecosystems support the next generation of entrepreneurs. The Founder Monitor aims to be the annual reference point for exactly that.
